Laser Wart Removal Treatments
Warts are indeed an undesirable skin condition that affects people of all ages and backgrounds
Medically, warts are referred to as cutaneous warts, which start developing when the skin becomes exposed to the human papillomavirus (HPV). Common warts are an infection of the superficial layers of the skin. They can become problematic after being exposed to the HPV bacteria, which rapidly grows and builds a foundation within the layers of the skin, eventually building the wart. Warts are viral infections that are highly contagious, and they can be easily transmitted without direct contact. Laser podiatry is an effective way to treat warts. Fotona Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers precisely remove the wart.
Fotona’s patented laser technology uses laser power to effectively ablate and cut the blood supply to the wart to incapacitate the wart from the root. Fotona Nd:YAG induces the coagulation of the blood vessels that supply the blood to the wart, causing subsequent necrosis. The laser penetrates deep into the skin to kill the calloused tissues, eventually leading to the death of the wart from the inside to the surface of the skin.

What Are Warts?
Warts come in many forms, sizes, and shapes. Here we break down the most common types of warts that are treatable with the new innovative Fotona wart-removal laser system:
These are common warts that are keratotic lesions caused by infection by a variety of DNA subtypes and the human papillomavirus (HPV). This type of wart commonly affects the nails on the hands and feet.
Verruca Filiformis/Filiformis Warts
These warts are composed of a single or many elongated papillae. These warts can appear commonly on thin skin like the face and neck.
These are clusters of warts that form around the fingernail or toenail. Periungual warts can affect the appearance of the nails by making them appear thickened and disfigured. They can lead to loss of the cuticle and paronychia (bacteria/fungal disease).
Most patients experience significant improvements from a single treatment
Another form of the HPV wart, subungual warts can develop on various areas of the body. These viruses are easily contracted with broken skin that allows for easy transmission. These warts can damage the nail bed if left untreated.
These common warts affect the heels or balls of the feet. They are hard and grainy in texture. The pressure from walking on the feet may cause further deepening of the wart underneath a callous (hardened skin). Plantar warts are also caused by HPV.
How Can Warts Be Treated?
The treatment of warts in Toronto cannot be narrowed down to one single option. However, with the use of Fotona’s dual-wavelength technology, patients have achieved tremendously improved results as their persistent warts are removed with this two-step nail wart removal treatment. Wart removal treatments can clear the skin without the recurrence of warts or the formation of scars. The Nd:YAG laser heats the affected area by weakening the parasitic fungi that is present in the patient’s skin. Single treatments are effective in dramatically improving the affected nail. Successful results are achieved with the growth of a healthy, new nail. The nail typically takes up to a year to regrow.

How Do Lasers Treat Warts?
The Er:YAG laser emits laser beams layer by layer to precisely ablate the tissue to remove the whole wart without causing substantial injury to the adjacent tissue. Laser wart treatments reduce the risk of recurrence in patients with a high clearance rate, leading to long-term immunity and patient satisfaction.

How many treatments will I need?
Resistant warts may require a secondary treatment to successfully achieve wart necrosis. Plantar mosaic and periungual warts have demonstrated to be more resistant to laser treatment, while common plantar warts required only a single treatment for 100% clearance. Healthy people tend to have their cutaneous warts resolved spontaneously. There is no single treatment that results in the clearance of the different types of cutaneous warts. However, warts can be esthetically unappealing and often painful for patients. Fotona Nd:YAG laser is the latest technology that has the ability to substantially reduce and remove warts completely.
